This book continues a new direction in philology: linguistic studies of folklore. How the body of proverbs, fixed in the collections of the 18th-19th centuries, is used by modern generations? The author studies individual portions of the Russian proverb collection actively used in modern speech, and compares them with the whole stock of proverbs collected over the last three centuries. She discusses how proverbs have been changed in modern language, their versions, proportion between active and passive proverb stocks. Blagova uses as base of comparison several collections of proverbs, including by V. Dal`, A. Dan`ko-Samoilova, and I. Snigirev. Bibliography.
