It is printed in modern orthography. The first four volumes, Economy, Life Style of the State Peasants and New Settlers of the Tobol`sk Gubernia, is an economic and demographic survey of the Tobol`sk Gubernia. These volumes include a large amount of statistics and factual information. The final fifth volume, A Type of Ostiak Hero in Ostiak Bylinas and Heroic Legends, is about heroic folklore of the Irtysh Ostiaks, a small indigenous nation of the Finno-Ugric group settled in the basin of the Irtysh River.
