This book about the El`tsin epoch starts with the anti-constitutional coup d`etat of 1991 which ended the USSR; describes the political crisis of October, 1993, and its tragic end; and analyzes the ensuing political and economic decay. The author criticizes the "shock strategy" chosen by the El`tsin government, and describes a possible alternative strategy of development.
