Count Ivan Ivanovich Tolstoi (1858-1916), a grandchild of Field Marshal Kutuzov, well known Russian statesman and social figure, archeologist and historian of art, had several government offices, including: education minister in S.Iu. Vitte`s government and mayor of St. Petersburg (Petrograd) in 1915-1916. This is a book of his memoirs, notes and thoughts about people`s education, letters from Rome, etc. Introduction "Graduate Education in the Period of the First Russian Revolution (1905-1907)" by A. Ivanov and L. Mandrykina. Also included are a biographical essay about I. Tolstoi by S.A. Zhebelev, comments, and name index.
