This biography of the Jewish actor and theater director Veniamin Zuskin (1899-1952) was written by his daughter. Zuskin`s life is inseparable from the life of the Moscow Jewish Theater (GOSSET) and of the Jewish Antifascist Committee. After Mikhoels`s death, he became the artistic director of the theater. Zuskin`s fate, rise and fall, repeats the fate of these two centers of Jewish cultural life. The NKVD combined his case with those of fourteen other members of the Jewish intelligentsia, they all were officially charged with propaganda of the Old Jewish culture and its traditions. For this "crime" they were shot in 1952. The book covers in detail his artistic life and his productions, and materials of the NKVD interrogations. Bibliography, index, comments.
