Many Russians first learned about Nikolai Timofeev-Resovskii (1900-1981), one of the greatest biologists of the 20th century, from the novel Zubr by Daniil Granin. One of the most productive periods of Timofeev-Resovskii`s life was his 20 years of research in Germany. He returned to Russia after the war and was sent to a labor camp where he spent ten years.
