This is the twenty-third volume in the series on the folklore of the peoples of Siberia and the Far East. The collection includes texts of forty-two pieces of Nenets foklore. The Nenets are the most numerous among the aboriginal peoples of the Russian Far North. This people belongs to the Finn-Ugric language group. They lived under a tribal system until the 1930s. The principal religion was Shamanism. Genres of Nenets folklore include: myths, etiological and cosmogonical legends, fairy tales, epic songs, drinking songs, Shamanic chants, children`s song-teaser, and more. All of them are presented in this volume. It includes both new materials and previously published, but not widely available material. Indices, bibliography, comments. English summary.
