St. Petersburg: Nauka, 2002 271 p. [1 ill.] Serie: Literaturnye Pamiatniki Hardcover. 17 x 22 cm ISBN: 5020285129 Language: RussianIvan Matveevich Murav`ev-Apostol (1768-1851), a writer, diplomat and statesman, and the father of a future Decembrist, wrote this cycle of letters for the St. Petersburg magazine "Syn Otechestva" during the Russian-French war of 1812-1813. Most of the letters had a distinctly patriotic spirit (with anti-French and anti-Napoleonic slogans) and at the same time were about Russian society, education and moral character. At this time the letter as a literary genre was well rooted in Russian literature. This cycle was very popular with readers and continued until 1815. In addition to sixteen letters also included are eight articles by the same author related to the main cycle. Comments and name index.
