One of the main theses of this book of articles on contemporary Russian art is the proclaimed triumph of suggestion over logical proof. This victory, according to the author, is brought about by current general disorientation. She opposes the prevalent cult of license to the former avant-guard cult of prohibitions that artists of the 1920-1930s, like Malevich, linked to the notion of the death of art. The art of the 1990s “submerges into the uniform, tautological, non-hierarchical and lax world that is like a psychedelic experience”. The key words of modern Russian art, “performance” and “redimeid,” reflect the fact that media, i.e. the instrument, grows into the main protagonist of art.
