This book covers the historical and social background of the Cossacks as a whole from their beginning to the present, their place in the history of Russia, and their most notable figures. The work also shows the role of Cossacks in peasants` rebellions, wars and the revolution. It is illustrated with rare photographs and with engravings and paintings of that time.
