Kuzbass is a coal mining region in Siberia, the center of political and economic strikes. The author analyzes changes in living standard and style which can be attributed to ongoing reforms for all the major social groups of the Kuzbass population: retirees, handicapped, children, students, etc. Sources of his analysis were: statistical data, content-analysis of local media, interviews with experts. The author concludes that despite the bad legacy left after 70 years of socialism, the reforms have created a basis for future successful development of the region and have brought some real positive social and spiritual changes into people`s lives.
