This monograph looks at the coverage of the topic of the working class in numerous periodicals of Moscow and St. Petersburg before the first Russian revolution, in the years of 1901-1904. The author restricts herself to conservative and liberal media. The studied subject was not a matter of serious concern for the more radical parties, who put it in the context of the anticipated revolution. The book analyzes materials on general and professional education of workers, reveals the major approaches of government and of various social groups to the working class issue. It attempts to classify valuable and largely unknown information dispersed in periodicals. Bibliographic references.
