In this book B.D. Pak, a major expert on the Far East, the author of "Koreans in the Russian Empire", analyzes the economic, political, and legal status of Koreans in Soviet Russia from 1917 until their deportation from the Far East to Kazakhstan in 1937. The book tells about the participation of Soviet Koreans in the war against Japan and in the Civil war of 1918-1920, increased emigration from Korea to Russia, the relationship with the local Russian population and with the authorities, the Korean contribution to Far Eastern agriculture, the difficulties Korean emigrants began to experience in the late 1920s, the combination of international and domestic factors that shaped the decision about Korean deportation, and the consequent depopulation of the region.
