This is the third volume of materials for a dictionary of plots and motifs in Russian literature. The chronology extends from the early 18th century to the present. The 18th and early 19th centuries provided many new themes for Russian belles-letters including deliberate borrowings from world literature and transforming folk writings into literary form. The volume explores among others the following motifs and plots: sin and repentance in V. Zhukovskii`s ballads, the missionary in literature about Siberia, magic lamp, mystical meaning of numbers, etc. Bibliographical references. Previous volumes (1996 & 1998) are available.
