This is a collection of the works of the outstanding Russian philologist Grigorii Gukovskii (1902-1950) on the history of the Russian poetry of the 18th century. They were written in the 1920s when the scholar used an analytical approach called "formal`nyi metod" [formal methodology]. Gukovskii`s works deal with polemics between Lomonosov and Sumarokov on poetical language, Derzhavin`s poetry, Sumarokov`s tragedies, Russian classicism in poetry, etc.
