This volume of memoirs by a Russian navy admiral is about the St. Peterburg shipyard, where many Russian submarines are built and about recent Russian naval history connected with the city. A. Mikhailovskii was head of the St. Petersburg navy base and later the chief commander of the Northern Fleet. Two previous books in this series are also available: Rabochaia Glubina (the story of the construction and use of Russian atomic submarines in the 1960`s-1970`s) and Vertikal`noe Vsplytie (covers the next period (1970s-1980s) in the history of the next generation of Russian atomic submarines, which was intended to provide military parity between Russia and NATO).
