Reviewing the situation in the region, the author also provides an assessment of the prospects for future development of Central Asia. The author argues that the region should not be perceived as a single unit and that the latter approach, being nevertheless used by some scholars and politicians, leads to serious mistakes. Some other myths about Central Asia are critically reviewed by the author.
