[ Jews of Moscow in the 1990s : Was there really a religious revival?]
Moscow: Institut Etnologii I Antropologii RAN, 1999 29 p Serie: Issledovaniia po Prikladnoi I Neotlozhnoi Etnologii, N125 pbk. 19 x 29 cm. Printing 150 ISBN: 5201146589(5) Language: Russian
This report contains extensive data on the religious situation among Moscow Jews in the 1990s. According to the author, the current situation is strikingly different from that of Soviet times. The state and society demonstrate their respect for Judaism and its institutions (just like other religions). The number of synagogues is growing; religious education institutions are functioning. However, only a small number of Jews can be characterized as observant in the Orthodox meaning of this word. The author gives his explanation of this fact and comes to conclusion that it is hardly possible to speak about a real religious revival among the Russian (Moscow) Jews.
