Language: RussianDina Morisovna Shvarts, historian of theater, was the head of the literary department of the Bol`shoi Dramaticheskii Teatr (BDT) in St. Petersburg in 1950-1990s. She had numerous responsibilities in the theater: from archiving all information about its productions to choosing plays to produce. Most of this time she worked with outstanding theater director Grigorii Tovstonogov. This memoir started in 1938, it is not only about BDT, its actors and directors, and Russian theater art, but also about cultural life in St. Petersburg in the pre- and post-war years. The book is provided with detailed comments that makes it a valuable source on the history of the theater.
