This is the first monograph in Russian literature on the decoration of Old Russian icons (11th-15th centuries). It studies the entire artistic image, its structure, the terminological description, the liturgical and social meaning of iconic d?cor. Based on numerous restoration studies, the author reconstructs the original image of surviving icons, attributes several so called `Korsunskii` frameworks from the city of Novgorod.
