The City of Great Novgorod, more than a thousand years old, was the center of the Novgorod Republic in the period 1136-1478. Up to 1778 the city kept its old structure and later was redesigned to be similar St. Petersburg. Knowledge of the old city plans allows better historical studies and the development of new regions of the city without damage to its history.
