Москва: Институт Россиискои Истории РАН, 1999 278 p Hardcover. Printing 500 ISBN: 58005500280 Язык: РусскийVelikie Luki was one of the oldest Russian towns on the border of Novgorod. It was a stop on the famous “Road from the Varangians to the Greeks”. Since 1478 the town was also on the border of the newly created Russian state. The town’s customhouse books are the most important sources for studying the formation of the internal market, but unfortunately they were not completely conserved in the archives. Published in this volume are four books for the years 1669/70 – 1671/72 and 1675/76 which fill in some blanks and give the researcher very rich and varied information about various aspects of Russia’s economic life in the 17th century. The introduction provides detailed description of the manuscripts with bibliographical references to other sources of this kind; some pages of the Customs-house books are reproduced in 17 illustrations. Name index. Geographical index. Subject index.
