This monograph is a collection of essays on the spiritual history of western Christian culture from the time of the fathers of the Church to turn of the 13th to 14th centuries. The author has no intention to create a complete picture, but rather pays attention to the most significant thinkers and artists. Along with well known monuments there are little known, recently discovered and practically not studied monuments in the book. The book is provided with the authors’ photographs, medieval texts in the author`s translation and polemic notes about modern theories in medieval study.
