This book is about the history of the first four capitals of Old Rus’: Staraia Ladoga, Novgorod, Kiev, and Vladimir. It includes a description of their rulers and citizens, churches and fortresses, monuments and other points of interest (Pamiatniki). It was first published in 1912-1915 by A.S. Suvorin publishing house under the title "Rus` v ee stolitsakh". The book includes numerous black-and-white illustrations of architectural monuments and urban landscapes of the early 20th century, many of which have ceased to exist.
