The history of the Soviet organization that we know as the KGB (Committee of the State Security), the state secret police and punitive organ, is told through 18 biographies of their heads: from Dzerzhinskii (1918) to Vadim Bakatin (1991). During its history the organization changed its name and organizational structure six times, but not its nature and its role in strengthening the totalitarian regime. The history of the KGB did not end with the death of the USSR: six other people have taken this office since 1991, including S. Stepashin and V. Putin. So, the book is to be continued.
