Unlike the majority of works on Russian-Slavic communications where Russia was considered as the perceived side, and other Slavic people were the perceiving one, this work deals with the counter interest of Russia—Imperial, soviet, and post-soviet— in the history and culture of related ethnoses. The primary focus concentrates on problems: myths and realities of Russian-Polish relation, perception of the Russian-Turkish war by Russian society and culture, the way of life of the Slavic nations in evidences of eyewitnesses, acquisition and popularization of art values of the western and southern Slavs in Russia.
