This book continues the series of publications which aim to overturn our ideas about the Stalin`s regime. This book argues the myth of reformatory-correctional institutions for scholars and engineers, called in Russian slang "sharashkas", (1929-1945). Enforcing the image of Stalin as an effective manager, Simonenkov collected evidence of the high productivity of "sharashkas" and shows the conditions for the intelligent labor force were not as bad as they were described by the survivors.
