Intended for the English-speaking public, this anthology is divided into two parts, each with an introduction. Part 1 covers roughly the first quarter of a century of the soviet state: from 1917-to 1945. Part Two (1945-1977) draws on the literature of the post-war period. This is not a textbook, although it does include the main works in the curriculum of soviet higher educational establishment specializing in the humanities.
