Aleksandr Veselovskii (1838-1906), a Russian historian of literature and a professor of St. Petersburg University, was one of the first who started to study mythological and folklore plots, which later were called archetypal. This is a collection of his four major works: Merlin and Solomon: Slavic legends about Solomon and Kitovras and the western legends on Morolf and Merlin; In Search of the Grail (three works about Swedish folklore); Contradictions of the Italian Renaissance (four works); Poetics of Plots (Introduction to historical poetics).
