St. Petersburg: Pushkinskii Fond, 2010 400 p Serie: Byloi Peterburg Hardcover. 17 x 24 cm ISBN: 9785898031756 (T.18) Language: Russian
This is the eighteenth volume of the series The Past of St. Petersburg. It also continues the subseries about the Decembrists and Pushkin as a historian and politician. The new volume consists of two works. The first work, "Posle vosstaniia", tells the story of the participants of the Decembrist rebellion, officers of the Chernigov division, their life after investigation and exile. The heroes of this story try to organize a new rebellion, this time among political prisoners in the Chita prison. The main plot of the historical novel "Pravo na poedinok" is about the death-feud between Pushkin and the ideologue of the reign of Nicholas I, Uvarov, which, according to the author, led to the poet`s death. The author shows how the unwillingness of the tsarist administration to cooperate with the advanced part of society for the sake of stability ends with inevitable corruption of the political system. Many of the previous volumes of this series are still available.
