This monograph is about reviving Slavic studies in Russia on the eve of, during, and the years after WWII. At its new beginning this field of study reflected the confrontation of two competing soviet ideologies: proletarian internationalism and Slavic patriotism. The second wing won and laid the basis for creating new academic research institutes, university schools and programs. The monograph studies the history of the revived field and the main directions of its studies. The book also shows how the totalitarian state affected social sciences and the humanities.
