The present work introduces and substantiates the author’s concept of a specific theory of art, called conservatism. The term “conservatism” here is used in a meaning close to the term “postmodernism”, indicating the very style of the modern thinking. But it would be a mistake to call these terms synonyms. The author states, that conservatism is connected not only with the intellectual history of recent times, but it also embodies the most important tendency in Western theoretical philosophy of the 19th and 20th centuries (Adorno, Habermas, Manheim, Groys, etc.) The book includes critical analysis of the theoretical works of several eminent American art theorists. Special attention is paid to the problems of representation, time and space in classical and modern theories of art. Summary in English.
