"Polud`e" (The Russian name for gafol, land rents, or royal tour) is the annual trip made by the lord or his steward to collect taxes and to inspect his domain and property. This phenomenon was common for many regions of the world before and during the feudal era. A historical and ethnographical study of the specific characteristics of "poliud`e" is done for various countries of the world, including the territories of Russia and neighboring countries. This collective monograph covers practically all continents and many countries, and is based on written sources in several languages, including dead ones, and reports of ethnographic field studies.
