Most of them came from the social group of "raznochinnaia intelligentsia", they had a different system of values than people around them which turned them into "Apostates" who had no place in traditional society. The work covers the period of so called "great reforms" (1855-1881) during the reign of Aleksandr II. Ekaterina Shcherbakova (b. 1968) is the author of several monographs.
