There is recently developed consensus that 1948-1966 were tragic years for genetics and geneticists in Russia: after the notorious session of the VASKhNIL in 1948 scientists who did not share the views of the academician Lysenko were removed from their jobs, and some of them persecuted (Zh. Medvedev, V. Soyfer, and many others). However the author of the current book, a professional biologist, tries to challenge this consensus, rebuild the image of Lysenko, and justify arrest of geneticists by Stalin`s penal system as his deliberate effort to make them work more effectively in the institute-prisons ("sharashka") than if they worked in free organizations. This book is an apology for the so called "Russian order" not even the administrative system of managing science, culture, production, etc., but even further creating special camps for scientific elites.
