Sport in Soviet Russia was always much more than sport, it was a mean of integration of the nation, strengthening its patriotism and of distraction from the problems and issues of the social system. This book studies the history of Russian soccer starting with 1946 when the Soviet Union was accepted into the International Soccer League. The author describes the history of Russian national organizational structure of soccer, the national team and its achievements. The last chapter of the book compares the soviet and post-soviet periods in this sport and shows that Russia lost its positions in the 1990s-early 2000s.
