What did man and the world look like through the prism of socialist realism, the main method of soviet art? What was the essence of the method, interpreted today as dictatorship of the party imperative, dominating soviet art and artists? Why was socialist realism so important for the ruling ideology if it was only a method of art? And, on the other hand, if it was only an ideological imperative, why did the art, which became a part of world culture, appear on its basis? These and other contradictions are the main subject of the research, where the author tries to take the phenomenon of socialist realism out from the sphere of ideology and myth into the area of a scientific analysis.
