Mikhail Men`shikov (1859-1918) was one of the best known journalists, "the voice of the nation", who wrote a column about current events for the newspaper "Novoe Vremia". In 1918 he was shot by the Bolsheviks. His almost 2,500 publications were not only a chronicle of the Empire sinking into oblivion but also his answer to the perennial questions about the Russian way. This book contains numerous articles, published from 1902 till 1916, and deals with the problems of the Russian Orthodox Church, issues of popular education and health care in the pre-revolutionary years. The main feature of Menshikov’s creative work is his sincere love for Russia and its people, his acute pain for the Russian spiritual and social-political evils, and his great aspiration to find the means for their treatment.
