This monograph focuses on the evolution of the less studied early Byzantine historiography of the Church (4-6th centuries), represented by five Orthodox historians: Eusebius of Caesarea, Socrates Scholasticus, Sozomen, Theodorus Lector and Evagrius Scholasticus. It studies every available Orthodox source of the period, unlike traditional historiography, which views Eusebius as the originator, and the other historians as mere compilers. Bibliography.
