After the publication of Lolita many large newspapers sought to interview the controversial author. Vladimir Nabokov considered himself a poor speaker, so he gave interviews exclusively in written form. Correspondents were asked to send their questions in advance. He did not allow any real dialog, and later even wrote questions for himself. He worked on interviews as though they were novels. Nabokov`s interviews have never been published on such a scale and with academic commentaries in Russian until this book. The collection also includes about 20 essays written during the American and Swiss periods of his life. This book structurally repeats the book of interviews Strong Opinions (1973) published by the author, however the compiler used the original texts, not the ones which were edited by Nabokov for Strong Opinions.
