This book is a collection of documented stories about military leaders who were unlawfully arrested in 1930s, survived the camps, and were released in 1939-1941 during the so called "pre-war thaw". Many of them became well known commanders during the Great Patriotic War: A. Gorbatov, M. Mager, K. Meretskov, K. Rokossovskii, V. Zaitsev, etc. Military historian N.
