This book is a collection of essays about little known pages in artistic biography and personal life of very famous Russian writers of the twentieth century: A. Akhmatova, A. Belyi, I. Bunin, K. Fedin, V. Khodasevich, L. Leonov, A. Platonov, A.N. Tolstoi, E. Zamiatin, M. Zoshchenko. It is based on archival materials, mostly letters and inscriptions on books.
