This monograph studies the evolution of the soviet play in the comedy genre: from carnival form in the early 1920s to the canon of social realism in the late 1920s-early 1930s. The author chose the plays of N. Erdman, V Shkvarkin and other authors to show the language and techniques of their comedic style and later the mechanism of their transformation under pressure to meet patterns or norms imposed on their work by officers from the ministry of culture. List of plays used in alphabetical and chronological order. Supplements include samples from the plays to illustrate the main theses of the book.
