This textbook on the history of Old Russian literature was first published in 1938. Though it was a gloomy time for any humanist discipline, the ideological censorship did not leave its deadly mark on the history of Old Russian and Church Slavonic literature. This textbook can not be called the best of this kind, but it is well written and reflects the "pre-Likhachev" period in the field: its theories, approaches, and findings.
