"Shield of Faith" is part of the polemics between the grecophiles and latinists in the Russian Orthodox church on the issue of transubstantiation. This polemic was one of the lines of confrontation of Orthodox Rus to the Latinized West. "Shield of Faith" is a collection of stories about the reasons and sources of this polemics, including the argument about the Eucharist, compiled and edited by archbishop Afanasii Kholmogorskii (Aleksei Liubimov, 1641-1702). The Author focuses on the literary aspects of theological polemics. Appendices include the main version of the book in Church Slavonic.
