On "The Russian Idea" of N.A. Berdiaev

This is the first publication in Russia of the one of the most significant works about Russian messianic-chiliastic consciousness “Russland und der Messianismus des Orients” (Tubingen, 1955). According to Peterim Sorokin, this work is a combination of deep analysis with a wide spectrum of topics: Russian religious life, philosophy, politics and morality. The author asserts that anti-capitalism in Russian comes not from a proletarian origin but from an aristocratic contempt for cupidity, not from envy of the poor but from the shame of the rich. Of special interest is the author`s epilogue to the book and his answer to reactions to this book by American psychologists L. Rancour-Lafarriere, B. Rosenthal, etc. The current book includes only the first part of the work: chapters 1-16 and 31. Bibliographic references.
