This book is about the history of relations between the Russian Orthodox and Catholic Churches in 1950-1960s and the role of the he Second Vatican Council for Russian Orthodoxy and other Orthodox Churches around the world. The conflict of the two Churches is shown through eyes of the Russian Orthodox Church hierarchs who participated in the Vatican Council as observers. The author studies the conflict against a soviet background, particularly the "Khrushchev Church reform" and the soviet system of managing the Church with help of Otdel Vneshnikh Tserkovnykh Snoshenii (Department of Church Foreign Relations).
