This monograph studies formation, status, and evolution of several strata of Russian medieval society who served the Russian tsars and nobility. This social groups has been little studied, because the soviet vulgar sociology labeled them as exploiters-feudal lords. Now they could be called a middle class. The author describes these social groups and the services they provided, creates portraits of some personalities from the northeastern part of Rus of the 14th-mid 16th centuries.
