This collection of six articles by Russian political scientists studies the process of strengthening of vertical power and reforming federation relations started by Vladimir Putin. The authors analyze the relations between the federation center and local authorities, including local elections, in seven regions of Russia: Ryazan, Tambov, Ul`ianovsk and Samara Oblasts; Republics of Komi and of Tatarstan, and Krasnodar Krai. This book is the first one in the series Slavic-Eurasian Studies which will publish comparative interdisciplinary studies of developing Eurasian Slavic territories, first of all the former states of "the socialist camp" in their post-communist period.
