After the death of Elena Sergeevna Bulgakova in 1970 the control of the archive of her husband Mikhail Bulgakov was seized by the KGB. Lidiia Ianovskaia, the first biographer of the outstanding writer, skirmished with the all-mighty secret police and managed to restore Bulgakov`s major work Master and Margarita in its original, uncensored version. She also published the first complete edition of I. Il`f`s note books, and some other works. This book includes her new works about Bulgakov, the story of publishing the novel in the original version, her other findings and stories of prototypes of Bulgakov`s characters.
